Pan Pacific locks into Suzhou

PAN Pacific Suzhou held its grand opening on April 12 after a three-month soft trading period from January.

With over 10 years of history, the opening signified the change from previous management to the Pan Pacific.

Centrally located in downtown Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, Pan Pacific Suzhou is an hour from Shanghai by train or by car on the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway. The hotel has 481 uniquely designed guestrooms, outstanding restaurants and bars, and state-of-the-art meeting and entertainment facilities.

Boasting unique Chinese architecture, grandeur and exquisite Suzhou garden features, Pan Pacific Suzhou is an indulgence in profound Chinese culture.

Inside the ancient building, modern facilities are perfectly combined to provide the most luxurious service to customers.

Apart from exquisite design features and a perfect site, the service is a key to its appeal.

"Our staff, some of whom have over 10 years' experience in the hotel, is the most important treasure to us," says proud General Manager Jeffrey Ong. "They know well about this industry and this city."

Jeffrey is from Singapore and has been in China since 2008 with a posting in north China's Dalian, Liaoning Province, before he got to Suzhou.

"The elements of culture are so diverse in Suzhou and hard to be replaced by other cities," he says.

As an international hotel management brand, Pan Pacific is very confident of the market in Suzhou, with a strong economic development, culture and proximity to Shanghai.

Cultural activities

In front of the famous scenic spot Panmen, the hotel is planning to develop many events in the near future to combine the tourism strengths of Suzhou with the hotel's amenities.

Pan Pacific Suzhou has the confidence to create new cultural activities, like the "Emperor's Feast" for example, with the hotel's unique historic design and surroundings.

Customers can dress in traditional Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) clothing and sit in a dragon chair to feel the power and dignity of China's last dynasty, feast like an emperor and be served by costumed attendants to enjoy the splendor of a bygone era.

Also, a variety of indoor and outdoor theme parties are available already, such as "Garden of the East," "Old Suzhou" and"Paradise on Earth."

The concept behind "Garden of the East" involves guests transported by local pedicabs through the spectacular Suzhou streets to arrive at an ancient heritage listed garden of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and enjoy a relaxing meal by the lagoon, rocks, pavilions and gardens with traditional entertainment.

With the "Old Suzhou" theme, guests can experience atmosphere reminiscent of the old city as the hotel's ballroom is transformed into a real life food market. The various entertainments and delicious snacks provide customers an excellent chance to experience local culture.

The themed ballroom in "Paradise on Earth" will depict Suzhou classic gardens, taking guests back to the olden times as they visit replicas of the historical city gate, famous Suzhou bridges and traditional wooden doors, while listening to tunes from the local opera.

The hotel has established a tight connection with local charities.

It cooperates with the local School for the Deaf to financially support students through events. Thirty students will be invited to visit World Expo 2010 in the company of staff from the hotel.

"We are looking for many appropriate ways to interact with society and take our social responsibility," says Jeffrey.
