鈥楽ecurity, comfort and care鈥 at Oakwood

A hospitality veteran for more than a decade, Singaporean Stanley Chung knows exactly what his guests are looking for. Taking the helm of Oakwood Residence Shanghai since August 2012, the general manager of the 112-room property cites “security, comfort and care” as the key words for good hospitality.

“At Oakwood, we aim to offer elegant apartments that combine the spacious comfort of a home with the many services of a hotel,” Chung told Shanghai Daily. “To make our place ‘a home away from home,’ we need to put our feet in the shoes of our guests, as I always tell my frontline staff to do.”

Ideally located in the vibrant Wuning area in Putuo District with convenient access to downtown Shanghai as well as entrances to major express ways, Oakwood Residence Shanghai opened in April 2010. It is the first Oakwood property in the city.

Featuring 112 rooms from studios to three-bedroom apartments ranging from 82 to 189 square meters, it is designed to bring a combination of hotel-like amenities, personalized service and the comforts of home in one elegant environment.

With a stable guest mix — more than 70 percent of long-stay customers are high-level company executives from Southeast Asia, Europe and North America — Oakwood Residence Shanghai has managed to maintain a high occupancy rate of over 90 percent on average despite fierce competition.

“Properties with convenient location, a worldwide network as well as identical high-quality service are the key strengths of Oakwood, one of the leading serviced apartment providers in Asia Pacific and part of Oakwood Worldwide, which is the global leader in corporate housing and service apartments,” Chung said. “In China, we are currently present in six cities and operate the Oakwood Premier, Oakwood Residence and Oakwood Apartments brands to cater to the different lifestyles and needs of our customers.”

Having worked on China’s mainland for more than 10 years — most of it in Shanghai and neighboring Suzhou — Chung has witnessed phenomenal changes in the country and is upbeat about the industry’s prospects.

“Shanghai will remain an attractive city for both business and leisure travelers from around the world as well as the rest of the country, with demand for internationally managed serviced apartments continuing to be robust,” Chung said. “We are looking forward to bringing Oakwood addresses to more locations in the city so that we can provide more options for our guests.”

To celebrate the upcoming year-end festive season, Oakwood is now offering holiday deals starting as low as US$54 a night for stays through February 15, 2014. It applies to all Oakwood serviced apartments in Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Jakarta, Manila, Tokyo, Bangkok and Seoul.
