Shop until you drop all around the city

Children’s Day is coming. It’s a great chance for parents to spend time with their children. Shanghai Daily runs down a few shopping destination options that all feature a mini-train service. No matter what you choose to do, get out there and have some fun.

River Mall at Expo Axis

The former main entrance to the World Expo site reopened as River Mall, a four-story shopping and entertainment center. It even has a mini-train to take people around the top floor.

Jump on the mini-train at the open air platform at the two ends of the Expo Axis. Enjoy the views of the skyline and green plants.

River Mall features the usual mix of shops, restaurants and cinemas. But it stands out from the crowd with its rooftop garden, a man-made waterfall, black swans and even peacocks.

The development has also incorporated the former Expo site’s musical fountain, which now serves as a water screen theater where movies are shown nightly. The Expo’s former Sunny Valley has been transformed into a 5,000-square-meter movie screen.

River Mall is only a short walk from China Art Museum, formerly the China Pavilion, Mercedes-Benz Arena and the Huangpu River.

Address: 1368 Shibo Ave

Transport: Take Metro Line 8 to China Art Museum Station or Metro Line 7 to Yuntai Road Station.

Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall

Nicknamed the “No. 1 Shopping Street in China,” Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall is a shopping paradise with authentic local products as well as those from all over the world.

Shanghai No. 1 Department Store stands at the intersection of Xizang Road and Nanjing Road while the largest Apple store in Shanghai is nearby on Henan Road.

A mini-train service is also available along the street. Those who love watching people will enjoy a ride on the mini-train.

Music and entertainment performances are staged frequently along the pedestrian mall.

Transport: Take Metro Line 1, 2 or 8 to People’s Square station

Jinqiao Life Hub

Nicknamed “a mall within a park and a park within a mall,” Life Hub @ Jinqiao features an open-space design that makes it a relaxing alternative to the usual shopping centers. There’s plenty to do including sipping a nice beverage at outdoor cafes, strolling through a mini garden, bowling, basketball and an Action and Fun Zone for children.

To celebrate the Children’s Day, a mini-train service will be offered, and there is a planting area for children, too.

Drop by for some food, do a little shopping and let the kids run off some steam. It’s hard to go wrong at the complex.

Address: Lane 3611, Zhangyang Rd

Transport: Take Metro Line 6 to Jinqiao Road station
