Spare time to appreciate spring
MARCH is the perfect month for a spring outing with the family, a lover or simply by yourself to enjoy the much-missed sunshine and pleasant warm breezes.
With the cold weather and a need for warm clothing disappearing, vivid foliage and blooming flowers provide a reasonable excuse to take a break from work and venture outside.
Here are some popular outdoor places in Shanghai to appreciate this wonderful time of year. For family
Sheshan Hill, Songjiang District
If anyone says that he/she is going to climb a mountain in Shanghai where average altitude is only 3 meters above sea level, the destination will definitely be Sheshan Hill with its highest point at 97 meters. It is also a great place for a family spring outing.
Families can pitch tents, have barbecues and play all sorts of games, such as football and badminton.
Sheshan Hill has a large artificial lake and a sculpture theme park, where children can play on the man-made beach.
How to get there: Take Metro Line 9 to Sheshan Station, then take a taxi.

Since Gucun Park is at least twice the size of Century Park, there are plenty of places for loving couples to spend time in each other's company.
From March 20 to April 20, a cherry blossom festival will be held in Gucun Park with a variety of events including speed dating, an engagement party and wedding ceremony.
At the Folk Art and Culture Exhibition Center inside Gucun Park, tourists can not only appreciate folk arts but also have a go at making their own works there. Couples could make gifts showing their love to each other.

Hengshan Road & Huashan Road
The dense and bushy French Phoenix trees that have lined Hengshan Road for years create a wonderful location to visit during early spring.
Imagine riding a bicycle carrying your sweetheart past the French Phoenix trees and classic noble villas, or stopping mid-route at one of the many cafes, bars or clubs to grab a drink and make sweet talk with your lover.
Compared with Hengshan Road, Huashan Road may have less exoticism but will provide memories of childhood for many Shanghai locals.
Red brick walls, roofless spaces and outdoor washbasins, clothes hung randomly in the alley, grannies with silver hair knitting sweaters in the sunshine; relive these familiar scenes that were an everyday sight for many Shanghainese.
