Where to have fun on Children's Day

INTERNATIONAL Children's Day is always a big day for Chinese children, involving presents, performances and outings.

It has been observed as June 1 in China since 1949 and children now get a one-day holiday from school. This year it falls on Saturday.

Throughout Shanghai there will be celebrations and various life hubs will stage fun activities.

Daning Happy Season

Daning Life Hub and the American candy brand Jelly Belly will build a candy world with 50,000 pieces of chocolates and candies. The candy world will be opened from Friday through Sunday.

Visitors get free admission if they follow the official WeChat (weixin) of Daning Life Hub.

Candies are used to build a Great Wall of China, an Eiffel Tower, a British double-decker bus, a Dutch windmill and a Jelly Belly doll.

Various games and activities will be held, including quizzes, toy car racing, darts contest and puzzles.

Interactive multimedia games and stage performances will be held for three days, giving children a platform to display their talents.

Angel Green Festival

The Angel Green Festival will be held at Jinqiao Life Hub from Friday through June 30 to promote environmental protection.

In the Garden Square, five zones will offer various activities. Each bears a letter spelling out LOHAS, for lifestyle of health and sustainability. Children can recycle used batteries, light bulbs and bottles, exchanging them for plant seeds. They can watch educational videos, study aquatic plants, design an environmental friendly flower vase, display their own plants and stroll around a garden of succulents.

An exhibition of works by contemporary artists Wang Yuyang and Guo Hui explores the relationship between humans and nature.

June 1 Game Town

On Children's Day, Anting Life Hub in Jiading District features June 1 Game Town with Legos construction toys.

Created in Denmark 81 years ago, Legos are still popular around the world, despite the impact of video games and smart phones.

A Legos World will be built, with many creative models, including Ninjiago and Chima and Friends. Boys and girls will find their favorite fantasy.

A free drama class will be held to recruit children with acting talents and dreams of becoming a star.
