XD cinema, 'samurai' securityand bubble festival

SECURITY guards at Peasant Paradise Theme Park are being transformed into "samurai," receptionists are "fairies," while cleaners will take on the guise of "witches."

These strange goings-on are because the park is the venue of a parallel session of the China International Cartoon and Animation Festival, which starts tomorrow,

Meanwhile, in Crazy Appleland, a magic bubble performance and fairy-themed masquerade are set to be big hits with children.

And at another parallel session venue, ZN Shopping Mall, a cartoon and animation themed complex of 50,000 square meters, was officially opened yesterday, including 5D and XD cinema.

These three venues, together with Baima Lake Cartoon and Animation Square, the main venue of CICAF, are tourism destinations featured in a travel trail of the festival.

"Cartoons and animation are not only for watching and reading," says Shen Yuliang, general manager of Zhejiang ZN Animation Company.

"The cartoon and animation industry is like a frame that can hold many types of culture."

Shanghai Daily recommends three venues to catch some CICAF parallel session highlights.

ZN Shopping Mall

This new complex belongs to Zhejiang ZN Animation Company and has attractions that include a water screen cinema, 4D cinema, 5D cinema and XD cinema.

At a cost of more than 100 million yuan, (US$16.18 million), the XD cinema features chairs which shake, light sensations, air blasts and smells.

The 5D cinema features a semi-spherical screen. The audience sits in the middle, sitting on suspended chairs, which shake in sync with the action.

All the cinemas are showing animations produced by Zhejiang ZN Animation Company, one of the leading animation companies in the country.

The company has produced almost 1,000 hours of animation, sold to more than 60 countries and regions.

Other highlights in the mall include an indoor playground, a children-themed restaurant, an early childhood education center and boutique stores with toys and anime products.

Peasant Paradise

()

Peasant Paradise Theme Park entertains visitors with a circus, a cosplay parade, a short cartoon opera, horse riding and outward bound games.

The circus is indeed very "rural" - with performances including a small boar jumping into water and mini pigs racing.

Classic fairy tale "The Emperor's New Clothes" has been adapted into a cartoon opera, which can only be finished with the help of young visitors.

Other attractions include a merry-go-round and a small ferris wheel.

During the festival, staff wear cosplay costumes: security guards are dressed as "samurai," complete with swords, cleaning ladies are "witches" with brooms, while receptionists are "fairies" with magic wands.

Visitors properly cosplayed (just wearing a wig won't do folks) receive a "Free Visa" for the park.

This is the third year Peasant Paradise is holding a parallel CICAF session. In the past two years it won the Best Parallel Session award.

Address: Liangzhu Farmland, Liangzhu Town, Yuhang

Admission: 120 yuan per adult; 180 yuan for an adult and one child under 1.5 meters; and 320-380 yuan for two adults and one child under 1.5 meters (depending on attractions).

Crazy Appleland

()

Crazy Appleland is the biggest indoor amusement park in the country, featuring 10 recreational areas and almost 100 entertainment programs.

At Pirate Street "gems" must be hunted down by visitors; at Candy Town there a huge "candy maze;" while at Fruit Tribe visitors can fight each other with "fruit bombs."

During CICAF visitors have yet more choices - with a bubble festival and a fairy-themed masquerade.

Address: 2555 Fengqing Avenue, Xiaoshan

Admission: 150 yuan per adult, 230 yuan for an adult and child under 1.5 meters, and 300 yuan for two adults and one child under1.5 meters.
