Good fortune that shines upon bilingual children
THE Fortune Kindergarten is an international bilingual school where children have the opportunity to learn English and Chinese with equal fluency.
The international, open, supportive curriculum caters to the students' individual needs allowing them to gain a balanced overall development as well as exposing them to the most valuable characteristics of Eastern and Western education. Children who graduate from the Fortune Kindergarten mostly go on to international or bilingual schools.
Regardless of their path, we remain confident that Fortune's curriculum has given our students solid language skills as well as a base of knowledge to make the transition into either stream °?- local or international.
Bilingualism is a long-term process. It's not something that someone dives into for six weeks to test the waters before putting a child into a more traditional international school or otherwise. Language is something that needs to be built up over time and should not be the main factor in choosing which the best school is. Language skills are a tool for learning, and the school uses an alternate day approach to teaching.
In the Fortune Kindergarten, English is taught throughout the entire day one day and Chinese the next. Each classroom has an English-speaking teacher, a Chinese teacher and a classroom assistant. The English and Chinese teacher swap between main teacher and assistant roles, depending on which language is dominant for the day.
We are trying to merge East and West in a style of education that suits local families who wish their children to have more of a Western education and Western families who want to expose their children to Chinese culture.
