Battle of the bands

STUDENTS at YCIS Shanghai's Gubei Campus were rocking around the clock during the annual Battle of the Bands competition. The vocals, drums, guitars, keyboards and even a violin were performed entirely by students, and this year's event also featured an entirely student-controlled sound system with Year 10 student, Basile, at the mixing desk.

Performances were accompanied with smoke machines and flashing laser lights. Each band contributed their own style: some with dancing, others with classic rock star moves, and everyone had their own creative costumes. The decision placed before the judges were not an easy one. After much discussion, the winning band was Colliding Waves, with members Isabelle, Hector, Emily, Dominic and Patrick. This band has an impressive history for a young group, having performed in the past two years Battle of the Bands before winning this year's crown.

Following such a high-energy performance, everyone in the audience would agree that the feeling they took home with them after the show was electric!

Across the river, students at YCIS Shanghai's Century Park Campus also participated in an open Battle of the Bands competition of international schools that was held at The Melting Pot in Pudong.
