Children need play - not cram schools

NOW many students, especially Koreans, are attending extra classes at a "cram school" after their school hours. However, I think this is a bad sign for our education system.

I will give you some reasons. First, over 90 percent of Korean students are going to such a school. If parents want to send their children to a "cram school," they have to pay a lot of money. In fact, in South Korea it was reported that 7 trillion won was spent recently on "cram school" education! So that poses a problem for many parents.

The second reason why I am against "cram school" is that it takes a lot of time from play! When students go to "cram school" they have to do work there on top of their usual school work. My friends in South Korea attends eight classes at "cram school" every day. Many sleep just five to six hours a day. This will be harmful to the students' health and development. Children need time to play!

Third, I believe students who go to "cram school" get so tired and stressed that they cannot focus well during their regular school classes. This defeats the purpose of going for extra classes altogether!

Children need to play well, eat well, study well and most importantly grow well. Children must do those things when they are growing up but those who have to attend "cram school" cannot. "Cram schools" are not needed and are a bad sign for our education system.
