Designs on a great career

IT is not uncommon for students at our age to rack their minds when faced with the overwhelming question “what do you want to do when you grow up?” Frankly, the only moment more intimidating is when we comb through the seemingly endless list of courses to apply for in universities. But, luckily, I am not one of them, because I was set on my future career and studies early on.
Personally, I believe any career can be the perfect career as long as one is passionate about it, and that passion for something must be nurtured and built over time. Looking back in time, my passion for design began taking shape the day I was introduced to Yew Chung’s Design & Technology course. Unlike any other school in Shanghai, this unique department offered practical approaches to various situations, ranging from designing and producing our own clocks to build passive amplification speakers. You name it, and the faculty will do anything to make it feasible — a dream come true to all kinesthetic learners.
As my interest in the subject flourished over the years during middle school, so did the teacher’s attention and guidance, offering books and websites for supplementary reading. YCIS’s intensive IB DT course allowed me to delve further into a more realistic and technical approach to the design world. While other students had just started exploring their potential career options, the extensive DT course, as one of the many similar subjects, offered at the beginning of Year 7, had already moulded and paved my way to university.
Nearing the end of my high school life, I cannot help but feel a great sense of accomplishment for finding my way to the widely recognized Rhode Island School of Design, a journey cultivated by Yew Chung’s consistent selection of courses, and devoted faculty.
