Ecology Action at YCIS
ECOLOGY Action is one of my favorite after-school activities. I chose it because I wanted to learn about it. I like the action part most: taking care of animals, planting and tending plants, and collecting paper from the classrooms for recycling.
As well as looking after the plants and animals, it is fun to raise silk worms and untangle them when they get caught up in their silk. It is cool to watch them turn into the color of their food and interesting to watch the eggs being laid.
Taking care of them gives me a happy feeling. We also make posters on the computer.
We also learn about the environment in our classroom. We have class eco-monitors who make sure that everything is recycled and that lights are turned off when not in use. In Ecology Action we learn to collect paper and save water.
Everybody can make a difference. One way we can make a difference is to support the Million Tree Project. Trees are important as without trees there would be no oxygen.
The Million Tree Project is about raising money to plant trees in Inner Mongolia, where sandstorms are a problem. Sandstorms can make it difficult to grow crops for food. The trees help prevent the sandstorms.
At YCIS, when you're 16, you can even go to Inner Mongolia to help plant them!
