False sense of freedom

AS June fast approaches and the weather heats up, students and teachers alike realize that the finishing line is closer than we think. Everyone is either struggling to finish work and be free or ignoring it and looking ahead to summer plans.

The end of the year is always busy; it's as if everyone suddenly realizes how little time there is left and scrambles to make sure their year ends pleasantly. All the important events are squeezed in to make for chaotic May and June schedules. There's always too much to do as the year progresses.

But, for IB year one students this so called "end of the year" is just a hoax to lower their guards and to deliver a faint sense of freedom. Many students will probably spend their summers writing extended essays, taking internships and researching prospective colleges and universities.

Others may decide to enjoy their final three months before the strenuous senior year arrives. Looking back, accomplishments over the year may look significant but we must prepare to repeat those things and more. For us, the battle is only half over.
