It’s easy being ‘green’ at IKEA

“IKEA” is becoming a fashionable word and a popular place to buy furniture.

Recently, I went to IKEA to do some interviews. When I arrived, it gave me a different feeling. Their service was nice, and their environmentally green tips were so cute and sweet.

When I went to the washroom, I passed by a strange room that was tidy, orderly and clean and had a picture on it with an adult and a baby. That was the baby care room. I was surprised because recently the news reported that Shanghai has few baby care rooms. Most of the shopping malls don’t have them. So, as I said, IKEA’S service was wonderful!

People are starting to realize that environmental protection is an important part of our daily lives. For IKEA it also is an important topic. They use solar energy or geothermal energy when they can instead of using other electricity made in a way that’s not good for the environment.

That day, their staff led us to walk instead of taking the elevator. Obviously, their staff always considers themselves an example for others. Not only IKEA’S equipment and staff is “green,” but also their products.

These “green” products were everywhere and also included children’s products.

“You know IKEA’S children section is very attractive. How do you include environmental protection in it? Can you give us some examples?” I asked.

“As far as we concerned, children are the most important people in the world,” an IKEA staff member said. “So we really want to give them more fun and give them their own place.

“Of course, we build the ‘green’ into their products, the model beings our cottons. We plant it ourselves and we try our best to reduce the amount of water used and insecticides. We hope the consumer will be more safe that way!”

At the end, they reminded us to try to have a greener lifestyle.

All in all, although it was a short trip, but it really left a deep impression on me and I hope IKEA will be more famous and successfully realize their dream.

As for students, we can be small guardians of our environment.
