Kayaking and the ‘Leap of Faith’ at Nanbei

Every year a sixth grade class goes to Nanbei. Nanbei is a small town close to Nanbei Lake. It is also one of the first national parks in China. Nanbei was once also called Yong’an Lake.

Our teachers were Mrs Collins, Mr Farnham, Mr Poellath and Mr Baverstock.

One of my top activities on the trip was kayaking. I thought it was amazing. It was hard because you had to keep the same rhythm and the quicker you go the swifter the rhythm had to be. It was one of the activities where you had to stay within your limits. If you go over your limits you won’t be quick no matter how fast you paddle because your limit is how well you keep up with the rhythm. I discovered I am seriously good at kayaking, but Mr Farnham was unbeatable.

My next favorite was the catapults. It required a lot of teamwork and I really love working in teams. I am a team-oriented person. Our catapult looked quite good before it fell apart. You could see the guides and the teachers had some experience in building a catapult because it worked well and most importantly it looked awesome. After three catapults out of five fell apart we just started a water fight while the teachers attacked us with their catapult.

Many of my classmates liked the “Leap of Faith” best. I thought it was just breathtaking and its hard to describe in words. When you start climbing you are looking forward to see the top. When you reach the plate you think you can not make a mistake. When you are finally standing on top of the metal disk you think this is the final moment. When you catch the trapeze you can feel the relief washing over you.

I just think Nanbei is one of the most amazing school trips I have ever done. I loved the activities. They were so different from each other and well organized. Many thanks also to the teachers and our insight guides who made this possible. I hoped you also liked it as much as I did. Nanbei is awesome.
