Lego league helps kids stretch brains

Current brain research has shown that the plasticity of the brain is improved the more the brain is introduced to problem solving tasks. Our brain literally grows the more it is challenged.
At Shanghai Community International School, students have been challenging their brains by participating in the Shanghai area’s International School First Lego League.
The FLL program is designed to show kids how exciting science, technology and engineering can be, by constructing and programing their very own robot. Research and problem solving are also integral parts of FLL competitions, and keys to the success of any real-world engineering.
On September 21, SCIS hosted the first FLL event of the year, an introductory workshop for students attending various international schools in Shanghai, as well as students from the SCIS sister school in Hangzhou.
More than 100 students and teachers participated in the event, and they ultimately were able to construct a working robot made out of Lego pieces and NXT intelligent brick.
Later in the year, students will participate in two competitions in Shanghai and one at Hangzhou International School. It is our aim to keep our brains challenged through problem solving, and to have fun in the process.
