Living in China helping expat kids shape dreams

Jacob Lee Mills, Year 4

My dream for my future is to work for the LEGO brand with my close friend, designing Lego structures for children all over the world. I love building Lego, and hopefully my friend and I can one day form a dual-language business that will involve construction. I know that for me, to make my dream a reality, I must work hard at school and get into a good university.

I have been in China with my family for 10 months. I came to China for my father’s work, and we are fortunate to experience the life and culture of another country. The friendliness of the people here is really special, and I am lucky to have great mates from many nationalities. I think that is one of the best things about my school, Yew Chung International School of Shanghai, is having so many friendships.

My education is preparing me to get a job, and learning Chinese at YCIS will definitely help me. My dream may take me outside of China, but my time here will definitely help. The biggest challenge is learning to speak Chinese, but I will keep learning!Charli Ann Mills, Year 5

My family and I have been in China for a total of 10 months, and my brother and I attend the Yew Chung International School of Shanghai. We moved to Shanghai to experience Chinese culture and to live overseas for a few years. I think the most interesting parts of Shanghai are the buildings and structures. I always have fun going to the top of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and viewing the city, and it is very impressive. The Chinese I am learning at school will assist me in the future to get a good job and to travel extensively in China.

I would love to become a teacher, because I really enjoy working with and helping little children. I know that for me to realize my dream, I must work hard at school, but just as important, I am going to have fun learning. My first year at YCIS was fantastic, so while I continue to enjoy school, my dream of becoming a teacher will also continue. One of the best things about my school is meeting kids from all around the world. Though I’m sure I will face obstacles, I will always work hard to get good grades so I can achieve my dreams!
