Net results for SISAC basketball contest
THE Shanghai International Schools Activities Conference (SISAC) held its citywide Basketball Championships on January 15.
SISAC is a sports league consisting of 18 international schools in Shanghai, Suzhou in Jiangsu Province and Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province, with 58 teams playing in four divisional tournaments.
Boys Division 1 Championship
SMIC defeated host school Shanghai American School Pudong 49-39 in a game filled with significant momentum changes. SAS Pudong, which had to win against Dulwich College Shanghai the previous night just to qualify for the tournament, played a masterful game against the regular season title holder, going into halftime with a score of 22-22. The third quarter belonged to SAS Pudong with the Eagles running to a 36-24 lead before the consistency and heady play SMIC showed throughout the season, swung the momentum in their favor. SMIC finished the game on a 29-4 run to take their first SISAC Basketball Championship trophy home to their Pudong campus. SMIC earned their way to the title game with an overtime victory over Shanghai Community International School Pudong 66-65. All in the gym held their breath as the final tipped ball by SCIS Pudong's Ben Smytka rolled off the rim as time expired. Concordia International School Shanghai, led by Anthony Cheung's 19 points, defeated SCIS Pudong 63-52 for third place. Dulwich defeated Suzhou Singapore International School to earn this year's Plate event.
Girls Division 1 Championship
Concordia defeated SCIS Pudong 35-28 to repeat as SISAC Girls Basketball Champion. SCIS Pudong initiated the pressure from the beginning of the game against the faster Concordia team, keeping the score close in the first half. Concordia slowly gained momentum and control of the game throughout the second half, led by Stacia Allen's 15 points. This is Concordia's fifth Girls Basketball Championship in the league's six-year history. SAS Pudong earned third place by defeating SMIC 28-27 in a closely fought game that was determined by key possessions for both teams. In the Plate tournament, host school British International School Shanghai Pudong beat SCIS Hongqiao.
Boys Division 2 Championship
Shanghai Singapore International School defeated SMIC 38-35 in an exciting and well-played game by both teams. This is SSIS' first SISAC title in the school's young history, and was led by Terence Lau's 13 points in the finals. In the D2 Plate competition, the French School defeated hosts Suzhou SSIS.
Girls Division 2 Championship
Concordia dominated the Division 2 Girls tournament with a convincing 50-18 victory over Yew Chung International School of Shanghai, Puxi to repeat as SISAC D2 Champion. Cassie Kienle scored 16 points and dominated the boards against the YCIS Puxi team. SAS Puxi defeated Rego 40-25 in the third-place game, while SCIS Pudong defeated sister-school SCIS Hongqiao in the Plate finals.
Many of the SISAC Division 1 teams are playing in ACAMIS (Association of China and Mongolia International Schools) and APAC (Asia Pacific Activities Conference) tournaments this week against other international schools from China, South Korea, Japan and the Philippines.
