New school year brings challenges and opportunities

Year 11. The second year of IGCSE. The very first year I will be taking an external examination.

External examinations can be quite daunting and considering that this is the first one I will be taking, I see the challenges ahead.

When I think about this major exam and the eventual outcome of it all, I see it as a path; I see that this exam influences my future: my grades will eventually determine which university I will get into, and that will pave the way for the rest of my life. This IGCSE exam marks the turning point in my studies, because the end result is now a focus.

I imagine there will be long, fruitful hours of studying to aim for the best grade possible. When you are young, the focus is on the entire learning process and not the end result. But now, it comes in a package, because the result is just as important as the entire process leading up to it.

On another note, this year will also be my third year as Student Council co-president, and we have already made an excellent jump start into the school year. Since the council has been so successful in previous years, the challenge this year will be to continue that success and build upon it to create an even better year for the student body.

There are challenges ahead, but I think that this year will provide a very good learning process for me to demonstrate time and stress management skills, and will definitely help to shape me more as a person.
