Preparing to study the challenging IBDP curriculum
ZHOU Zhiheng attends World Foreign Language Middle School (IB High School campus) and said it provides a one-year pre-IB program to help students adjust to the courses they choose in English.
In this year, teachers usually give an overall view of IB courses. When the 17-year-old entered Grade 11 and selected the higher and standard level courses, he said the workload got heavier with internal assessments of all subjects and science projects that are not required in either traditional Chinese high schools courses or AP courses.
He said his Chinese A course was different from the usual Chinese textbooks as they focused on analytical commentary of literature works.
He said he had to study two to three collections each semester and learned to write book reviews, including evaluations of symbols and settings that appeared in the novels.
Zhou said the mathematics and sciences courses are similar to the ones in Chinese high schools except for the use of English.
