SCIS show raises money for Starfish
EARLIER this month, Shanghai Community International School's Hongqiao campus held a community show, which raised nearly 20,000 yuan (US$3,016) for the Starfish Foster Home Foundation. The show involved more than 150 students, parents and teachers acting, singing and dancing on the stage.
Christmas concert
The piccolo choir, recorder ensemble, junior choir, junior band, IB choir, senior rock band and the Year 7 jazz fusion group from British International School Shanghai all performed at the Christmas concert to make this annual festive event one to remember. The audience got the opportunity to sing Christmas carols accompanied by students across all the Key Stages.
Performance night
Yew Chung International School of Shanghai's Century Park campus hosted its inaugural Performance Evening. This year's performances delivered a full range of solos and duets in recorder, violin, piano, drums and voice, ballet and contemporary dances, comedy and kung fu. The Performance Evening demonstrated the YCIS motto of aligning with art and culture.
Wonders of science
Students at the Yew Chung International School of Shanghai's Gubei campus showed hard work, creativity and love of science at the Science Fair in November. Across town, the Century Park campus launched its inaugural Science Week, which centered on the theme of "Misinformation."
Six-school choral festival
The Chamber Singers of Concordia International School Shanghai hosted 96 singers from six schools including Brent International School, Manila, Hong Kong International School, International School of Beijing, Seoul Foreign School and Shanghai American School, Pudong for the APAC Choral Festival.
Concordia wax history
The entire Concordia International School Shanghai's fifth grade has researched American historical figures for several weeks in preparation for the "Concordia Wax Museum." Earlier this month, every fifth-grader magically transformed into the historical character he/she had learned somuch about.
Elizabethan winter fair
Dulwich College Shanghai hosted its annual Winter Fair this month. More than 5,000 visitors were transported back in time by the Elizabethan era-themed courtyard, complete with pig roast. Children had the opportunity to have photos with Santa, play the many games and activities on offer and enjoy treats from the Old Sweet Shoppe. Parents also had fun outbidding one another for some of the tremendous prizes up for grabs in the Silent Auction and Raffle. Everyone was entertained by music from the school choirs and bands. More than 90 vendors offered shoppers the chance to stock up on Christmas presents and handicrafts.
Dulwich football tournament
More than 50 teams from Years 3 to 9 of Dulwich College Shanghai took part in the annual Dulwich Cup football tournament that took place in November. Dulwich played extremely well in all age groups with Year 3/4 boys and girls both leaving with a winner's trophy. Dulwich Year 3/4 boys played extremely well all day and in the final they outplayed their opponent BISS Puxi with a mix of solid defence and swift attacking play. The final ended with Dulwich winning 2-0.
Legend of Christmas
The Western International School of Shanghai performed "The Legend of Christmas," an original seasonal show full of excitement and festive spirit earlier this month. Hundreds of parents and friends gathered to enjoy the dancing, singing and drama presented by children from 31 countries and regions.
'The Big Draw'
The Western International School of Shanghai has been the first school in China to work in conjunction with "The Big Draw," an international drawing event held around the world every year to encourage drawing and creativity.
Eco efforts approved
The Shanghai American School directors have approved a proposal to offset the school's carbon emissions. Trees will be planted in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region by SAS students as part of the Roots and Shoots Million Tree Project.
SSIS joins SISAC
Shanghai Singapore International School achieved a new milestone this year with its entry into the Shanghai International Schools Activities Conference. SISAC is a competitive sports league open to SSIS students from Secondary 3 to High 2.
Basketball success
Shanghai Singapore International School officially established its first ever boys' and girls' basketball team. The boys' team chalked up an impressive record of seven wins in eight games.
Borneo jungle school trip
Twenty students and three staff members from the Shanghai Rego International School recently went on a trip to Kota Kinabalu, Borneo, to redecorate a small school in the middle of the jungle. During their weeklong stay, the group also learned jungle survival cooking, whitewater rafting and snorkeling.
Stepping Stones
Shanghai Rego International School has been involved with the Stepping Stones organization and worked with a local migrant school. Each week, the migrant school has sent 30 students to enjoy Rego's facilities, while 20 Rego students have been preparing various lessons for migrant children.
