SCIS students make the grade in IB program

THIS year was another outstanding year for International Baccalaureate Diploma Program students at Shanghai Community International School.

Seventy-two students in the Class of 2014 were entered for the full IB Diploma and the pass rate was a remarkable 88 percent. Unlike many IB schools around the world, SCIS does not pre-select students for entry into the IB Diploma, but encourages all students to grasp the opportunities provided by this challenging program.

The SCIS average score for those who achieved the full IB diploma was 34, above the world average of 29.8 points. The high scorers of 40 and above from the class of 2014 were Austin Chan, Andre Ong, Ailyn Sierpe and Randy Lee. We ended with 15 students scoring a 36 or above.

Our students received offers from top universities worldwide including the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia, the University of Edinburgh, University College London, Georgetown University, Vanderbilt University, UCLA and Hong Kong University, all of which rank in the top 25 universities worldwide.

SCIS students have achieved tremendous results in their external examinations while still participating in a wide range of sports, drama productions, musical events, community service projects, and many other activities. These students personify the old adage, “If you want to get something difficult done well, ask a busy person.”
