Top foreign schools to train Shanghai's talent
BUSINESS executives and senior government officials will be able to attend training courses from world-class schools, such as the Harvard Business School, without leaving the city.
Pudong New Area government is now inviting top business schools from around the world to deliver courses in Shanghai to help the city develop high-end financial professionals.
The trial lectures provided by three top schools will be launched in the China Executive Leadership Academy in Pudong (CELAP) by the end of this year, and formal classes are expected to begin next April, government officials has said.
The courses can help business leaders avoid the trouble of the complicated procedures and high cost of going abroad for training, government officials said.
The academy has made six tailored programs lectured by English-speaking foreign teachers from Harvard Business School and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia Business School.
As one of the three state-level training colleges administered by the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, CELAP plans to integrate the international courses into the training of bureau-level cadres, state-owned business executives and future leaders.
Following the trial run, Pudong will seek cooperation with world-leading schools including the London School of Economics and Political Science and the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne.
Shanghai has set an ambitious plan to develop itself into a financial center by 2020, which requires a great deal of financial professionals.
City government officials have gone abroad to invite and attract overseas professionals to the city several times. However, the high cost of accommodating overseas professionals in the local business environment has impeded the progress.
