Trial and error one way to learn what I needed

Having lived in Shanghai and Beijing now for almost 10 years, I often criticize myself for not being able to speak Chinese better. I can get around, order in a restaurant, and look very cool when my parents visit me. But in truth, I should be fluent. Fortunately, as a teacher at Shanghai Community International School, I am not required to be proficient in Chinese. My real world Chinese language knowledge, thus, comes from both utilizing trial-and-error tactics and having friends who have taught me what I wanted to know or, rather, what I needed to know.

I have lived in various countries around the world, and every year I find that there is not any other place I would rather be than in China. Even my dad likes Shanghai more than New York City!

There is just so much to do, so much to see, and every day seems like an adventure because change isfast here.
