Tune in for Emmy winner Altman
EMMY Award winner, John Altman, will be visiting the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) on December 5.
A selection of the top composers at WISS will have the opportunity to have a Composer Masterclass with Altman, where they will be able to show him their work and have him offer his comments and general inspirational feedback. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the students; a chance for them to work and be critiqued by one of the world's best.
Altman's musical career is impressive and full of success. His credits include 19 platinum albums, 4,000 plus commercials and 55 movies.
He has won most prestigious film composer awards: an EMMY; a ASCAP Film Award (twice); the Anthony Asquith Award (BAFTA); the Choreographer's Carnival Award; a TRIC Award; a Golden Reel nomination; a BAFTA nomination; and an Oscar mention for the period music in "Titanic."
His contribution to British and international film music has also been recognized by the award of the Gold Badge of Excellence, the lifetime achievement award of the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters; a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Monaco Film Festival; and with an honorary doctorate of music from the University of Sussex.
He has also worked and played alongside many famous and influential musicians, such as Eric Clapton, Sting, Phil Collins, Jimi Hendrix, Nick Drake, Muddy Waters, Bob Marley, Jimmy Page, Little Richard, Prince, Van Morrison and Hot Chocolate and many more.
The list goes on, and the value that his visit will bring to the students at WISS is unquantifiable.
The WISS Music Department places a unique focus on composition within the music program, helping students not only to master their talents and skills as instrumentalists and performers but also to teach them how to use and create music, to develop the skills that are needed to create their own pieces.
WISS is cultivating music wonders, by giving them access to a world of opportunities within the international music world, such as this prestigious visit; by giving them ample chance to use and show their abilities, and by providing them with the instructional platform to make them successful musicians, composers and well-balanced individuals.
