Virtuous students support orphans

THIS year, as part of our Virtues curriculum, SUIS Pudong International Stream continues to support two charitable organizations: Yang Guang Migrant School and Shanghai Healing Home.

Shanghai Healing Home (SHH) cares for orphaned children with cleft lip or palate, both before and after surgery.

Last year, students worked very hard and raised money to support Jack Dangdang, for one year. This enabled Jack to have one surgery.

Our goal this year is to raise enough to fund Jack and another infant for another year. Our target is 80,000 yuan (US$12,849).

To start the ball rolling, our first charity event was a mufti day (uniform-free day) and bake sale, on November 2. Children (and teachers) contributed so they could shed uniforms for a day. Baked items were sold during afternoon break. Grades 5, 6 and 7 provided them this time, but all classes will have a turn this year.

Everyone's support was greatly appreciated.

Anita Waugh is Charity coordinator at SUIS Pudong.
