Wellness Week at SSIS Minhang
WELLNESS is a multi-dimensional concept and a lifestyle that the Shanghai Singapore International School wants their students to learn about and start to adopt.
From November 15 to 19, the SSIS Minhang campus sponsored and participated in Wellness Week with many fun events, educational seminars and a lot of exercise.
The purpose of hosting the Wellness Week in SSIS was to educate students about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and promote healthy eating habits that will help them grow, develop and do well in school. During this week, the school focused on three aspects of wellness - physical, nutritional and environmental.
A professional nutritionist spoke about the importance of maintaining a balanced nutritious diet and a daily healthy lifestyle.
Students and staff took part in group exercises in the school gymnasium during regular assemblies. Throughout the week, the school cafeteria offered daily special nutritious lunch snacks.
On November 17, parents were invited to SSIS to take part in the Wellness Fair. Booths offered information and displays on a range of organic foods, medical and spa services. Biodynamically grown wines and healthy blends of fruit juices were available for tasting.
Parents had the opportunity to attend workshops on child nutrition, individual resilience and choice of children's snacks.
To raise students' awareness of environmental protection, each Junior School class "adopted" a potted plant and little wellness ambassadors have been tasked with showering their class plant with tender loving care, the right amount of sun and water.
Students, parents and staff enjoyed the event thoroughly and, most importantly, learned about the importance of a healthy lifestyle for life.
