Russian Students Fund China Trip By Posing With Strangers
Last month we heard about a hapless Belgian couple whose plans for a honeymoon in China fizzled after they arrived in the country with just 4,000 yuan (US$602).
Now the Internet is abuzz about three Russian college students and their low-budget trek through China. The students are funding their trip by asking passersby to pay to take their pictures taken with them, Chongqing Economic Times reported.
The trio started their trip in China on July 16 in northwestern Xinjiang. They plan to travel south to Guangzhou and then north to Beijing as they walk and hitchhike around the country.
They’ve prepared signs in Chinese reading, "We can take photo together with you. Please give me some money," and "Please give me some money to help fulfill my dream of travelling around China."
In the wee hours of July 31, the three were spotted trying to thumb a ride from the side of an expressway in Chongqing.
Expressway staff called police to check on the youngsters at 2:30am. Officers took them to a local police station and provided them with food.
The cops also warned the students not to hitchhike on the expressway and gave them 100 yuan to continue their trip.
According to reports, the trio had already been to Gansu and Shanxi provinces. They are said to have met many warm-hearted Chinese who have been kind enough to offer them helping hands.
