FOR a 11-year-old-girl nicknamed Shasha, study was too much to hope 2 years ago.

The little AIDS-patient was robbed of an access to school in Liushahe, Changsha City, Hunan Province, for other parents in the school she used to go overwhelmingly opposed her studying alongside their children.

However, one teacher Yi Pengbo who later became headmaster stood to defend her right to study , reported Xiaoxiang Morning Herald.

Amid concerns and widespread apathy, Yi tutored Shasha at her home every week.

Shasha was diagnosed having AIDS in 2013 after her father contracted AIDS.

Her life underwent a drastic change thereafter. Facing resistance from people around, she first transferred to Bailingniao school in 2014.

Unfortunately, she was rejected there as well. Since, no where did she go except to the hospital.

Shasha has faced discrimination beyond imagination along with her grandparents. Her family was ominous in the village.

Fear of contracting AIDS blurred neighbors’ eyes who considered Shasha’s fishes either inedible.

It was only in 2015 that a young male teacher volunteered to help Shasha though he quit soon.

Nearly after two years, amid such gloomy prospects, the new headmaster Yi showed up.

Shasha's painting, which reads: What is a dream? A dream is hope.

For Yi’s family as well health was a concern. However, he stayed put citing common knowledge that AIDS was not contracted by hand-to-hand contact.

Shasha picked up maths despite a 2-year gap, proving to be a quick learner.

Yi tried his best to make Shasha's learning experience interesting. Determined to restore her confidence, Yi also helped Shasha learning riding bicycle and using dictionary.

Shasha was polite in manners except that AIDS left an indelible mark on her. Yi sensed she gradually being introvert and maturing beyond her age.

Bothered with her despair, Yi wanted to ensure she studies further after the junior high schoo entrance exam. Though confusion remained: Will Shasha be lucky enough to have another teacher?

Netizens complimented Yi’s kindness and efforts, while expressing regret for Shasha.

All it shows that we are still a long way from rooting out discrimination towards AIDS-patients.
