Illegitimate Policemen Could Face Punishment

The No. 312 national highway from Sanjiaocheng town, Yuzhong county to Gancao town , Gansu Province has recently gone under construction, Lanzhou Morning Post reported on June 29.

No disorders or accidents were reported, thanks to the 15 traffic “policemen” who kept a watchful eye over traffic.

Some veteran drivers sensed something unusual in appearance of the devoted policemen, who turned out to be workers directed by the construction company, aiming to combat congestion caused by narrow highways and overflowing traffic.

The company handed out 10 fake police uniforms, which were copies of the real ones with codes and symbols “XJ” - abbreviation of auxiliary police. The uniforms did not have police ranks on them.

They carried no police cameras with them, suggesting they had no power to enforce law.

Drivers who come by had opinions divided in it. Some admired the dedication of the fake policemen, while others questioned legitimacy.

According to the construction company, earlier government set guards at the entry to highway in Sanjiaocheng town to point to another way, which failed.

So the construction company volunteered to stand guard, which was said to have gotten approval by the local traffic police brigade.

The company said that they had no idea of its illegitimacy, while keeping their mouths shut about the source of uniforms.

Lawyers said that wearing police uniforms and related symbols is against the law, meaning the company and the workers involved could be punished.

A “policeman” together with citizens enjoyed the shade and had ice-creams.
