Super skinny brown bear suspected of being abused
A Weibo user who goes as @lxfyghy posted pictures of a super skinny brown bear lying near a pool at Xinxiang People’s Park in Henan Province on June 18. The netizen suspected that the brown bear at the park’s zoo area was either “hungry or abused.”
The manager of the department of animal control in the park said two two-year-old bears in the zoo were brought from another zoo, adding they were healthy.
The manager said they had enough funding to feed the bears. With days getting hotter, fruits were also given to them in the afternoon. However, due to the park’s small size, it could not weigh them except give them normal inspections like deworming. The manager insisted the bear in the picture had no physical or mental problems and was not hungry, sick or abused.
Both the animals were in their early periods of growth.
An animal protector in Zhengzhou said that the female brown bear was very skinny and therefore vulnerable. It urged the park to be extra careful when introducing new animals.
