Adoptee Visits Beijing to Search for Birth Parents
Twenty-two years ago, a one-year-old baby girl was abandoned under a tree at the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. A student discovered the crying baby and called police.
According to police officer Hou Xiangwei and his colleagues who saved the girl, her right hand was blackened by severe burns and wrapped in a white cloth. They looked after her for three days but failed to find her parents. Eventually, the child was sent to a welfare center, where she was given the name Cao Haofei and the nickname Feifei.
Feifei was adopted by an American couple at the age of seven in 2000. Since then, she lived with the family in Texas.
On May 24, Feifei visited the police station where Hou works and met the man who helped her twenty-two years ago.
When Hou saw the girl, who had part of her right fingers amputated, he recalled the incident.
Visiting the police station once again on September 19, Feifei expressed her sincere gratitude to Hou.
She also asked the police to help find her birth parents. She said, "I’m not angry with them or depressed… Perhaps it was the best choice for them."
"I want to meet them and ask for my birth date and my childhood story," She added.
