Brave teacher helps over 60 children cross a dangerous river
A heroic schoolteacher went beyond the call of duty when he carried his students to safety over a treacherous river.
A torrential downpour and rising water levels had cut off a route taken by students of Muduo Primary School and left them stranded on June 29. But the elementary school principal, from Yunnan Province, came to the rescue.
Duan Rui, 28, carried 67 of his students, aged between 5-years-old and 10-years-old, across a 15-meter wide shallow so they could attend school in the Muduo Village of Awang Town.
It took the school’s principal over two hours to carry all of the youngsters from one side to the other.
One of the children snapped the moment on his cell phone and posted Duan’s heroic act online, which drew high praise from those on social media.
The local educational authority later issued a notice saying that schools can suspend classes, if necessary, to ensure children's safety due to the weather.
