Doctor Eats with Cotton Swabs to Train Finger Dexterity
For Zhou Jianbo, a doctor in Hunan Province, cotton swabs are not something they are supposed to be – but chopsticks.
Photos of him eating with cotton swabs have recently gone viral on social media.
Zhou is an associate chief physician in otolaryngology at Hunan Provincial People's Hospital in Changsha, the capital city.
Actually, Zhou has trained his fingers by eating with cotton swabs for more than two years. “Finger dexterity is vital in surgery,” Zhou said. “The smaller the objects are, the more meticulous attention it takes.”
At the very beginning, it took him double his normal time on one meal. Now he is so skilled that he can use cotton swabs to pick up food on both hands at the same time.
Zhou does needlework and finger exercise to train dexterity and coordination of hands, eyes and brain. He also has a unique training method of stitching grape skin with needle and thread.
