Doctor Hooked Up To Urine Bag So He Could Operate On Patient

Two photos of a doctor wearing a urine bag as he operated on a patient on March 22 have been widely shared on social media.

The doctor, Yuan Jiatian, is the director of the department of general surgery at the Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University in Chengdu, capital city of southwest China’s Sichuan Province.

He suffered acute ureteral calculus on March 17 and was admitted to hospital after receiving an operation on March 21.

But he insisted on performing an operation the next day because he knew the patient’s condition and history better than the alternative surgeon and did not want to break the family’s trust in him.

The patient’s condition was also urgent and surgery could not be delayed.

The photos, which were first posted on WeChat by a colleague, soon went viral.

Many netizens were deeply moved and said the doctor did a good job while spreading positive energy. However, some netizens disagreed with his behavior and questioned whether his poor health would influence the operation.

Yuan told Chengdu Business News that he had evaluated his own physical state before the operation and believed he’s capable of performing it. In order to be responsible for the patient, he was given an injection of pain killer before the operation and successfully finished it in four hours.
