Mom Turns Spiderman to Raise Money for 5-yr-old Son's Treatment

2016/06/18

A spiderman stood on a busy street in Beijing, with a board in hand requesting passers-by to get a shot with 'him' at 5 yuan each.

Many took a shot with the spiderman on Huilongguan Street E. of Changping District, Beijing Times reported.

As it turned out, in the costume of Spiderman was a 29-year-old mother surnamed He who strived to raise money for her 5-year-old son, Xiaowei, who  was diagnosed last June suffering from reactive histiocytosis.

Many passer-bys were moved to know this and made spontaneous donations.

He said her family was already under great financial strain since her husband supported family by doing part-time jobs only. Her father-in-law had a stomach cancer and barely survived on drugs. And then she has a daughter to raise.

The conditions for proper treatment of Xiaowei have only worsened over the period. She already spent almost 1.5 million yuan on treatment.

In Febrary Xiaowei was transferred into Jingdu Children’s hospital. On April 7 he underwent BMT. However, the operation remained unsuccessful and further complication took place.

The doctor surnamed Xiao said the disease was tough to conquer apart from requiring very high treatment costs. The kid's complications emerged earlier and grew fast.

Now, Xiaowei's survival depends on a second transplantation that could cost anything between 300,000 to 500,000 yuan.

Sitting on the bed with a nasal cannula, Xiaowei was watching cartoons,  something luxury for the little kid. He adores superheroes, such as Superman, Spiderman and Ultraman. But he is tired of living in a hospital and is eager to go back to school.

For mother He, raising money for treatment is becoming an uphill task. Nothing matters more to her than the treatment fee. And with her family out of everything of any worth, the idea of dressing like Spiderman came to her mind.

Apart from everything else, she zeroed in on it as her son is fond of the superheroes.
