'Most Beautiful Couple' Rescue Drowning Man

A young couple in Baoji City of northwestern Shaanxi Province rescued a drowning man on April 10. They soon became Internet stars after a video of their helping act went online later on the same day.

The 26-year-old hero, Wang Xudong, jumped into the water to save the drowning man. When brought ashort, his 23-year-old girlfriend, Li Chengyang took first aid measures for the drowning man.

Chinese netizens appreciated their bravery and kindness, and called them "the most beautiful couple" ever.

Wang recounted getting choked with a mouthful of water after jumping into the water. He felt a bit afraid but didn't give up.

He put his arms around the drowning man and tried to swim to the shore. The drowning man smelled of alcohol.

A passer-by found a rubber pipe and pulled them up to the ground.

According to the local Huashang Newspaper, Li is a nurse at a local hospital. She carried out cardiopulmonary resuscitation and took other emergency measures while other adults also joined the rescue effort.

According to paramedics, thanks to the timely rescue, the drowning man was out of danger. He was discharged from hospital that the same night after treatment.

The report also said that Wang's father once rescued a drowning girl at the same place with the help of some villagers.
