Octogenarian Online Broadcaster Boasts Over 240,000 Followers
An 81-year-old woman has become the latest Internet sensation after she broadcast her daily life online, which brought her over 240,000 followers – most of them young people born in the 1990s.
Qiu Zhizhen, whose online ID is Trendy Old Lady, started to use social networking media in 2004 including online chatting software, microblogging and live broadcasting after she retired from a power supply company in Cangzhou City, Hebei Province.
Qiu learned live broadcasting from her granddaughter who spent holiday in Cangzhou last May.
The old lady broadcasts twice a day, one hour each time at 8:30am and 8:30pm. She broadcasts her daily life such as dining, haircutting, attending university for the elderly and traveling. She also talks about life stories during broadcasting. Sometimes, she will sing classic songs at the request of her followers.
Qiu has also mastered online buzzwords and gestures popular among young people.
