SH Metro Comes Up With New Idea To Clean Illegal Ads

2016/05/16
Chen Xiaoli

Illegal advertisements have been a nuisance for Shanghai subway network for quite a long time.

Police recently raided such a den near Sanlin Station of Metro Line 11.

More than 10 offenders were caught handing out advertising leaflets on Metro trains during the latest crackdown launched by the Metro police.

Two organizers and eight gang members were caught and more than 100,000 leaflets were seized.

All of the offenders were punished and six people detained.

The repeated crackdown against illegal ads on subway trains has the offenders finding new ways to avoid getting caught. For example, they board the earliest trains when there are fewer passengers.

On April 16, two people were caught sticking leaflets on Metro Line 2.

Police said administrative detention was among the punishments meted out to these suspects. The offenders were also required to clean the carriages.

Now, the Metro operator is encouraging even the passengers to join.

In a special campaign from now until May 31, if you take a picture while removing the illegal ads on Metro trains and send it to the Metro operator via WeChat, you could win a one-day Metro ticket for free.

How to participate?

1. Tear off the illegal ads.
