School Gives Special Assignment to Sixth-Graders – Becoming A Chef
A total of 37 students from a Grade 6 class at Bashu Elementary School in southwest China’s Chongqing City are all capable of cooking about 20 dishes, thanks to the cooking homework assigned by their teacher.
Students are required to complete a whole procedure of grocery shopping, washing and cooking.
At the beginning, they could only cook simple dishes and often made mistakes. Now some of them can even cook Western-style cuisine.
“I feel very tired after finishing two dishes. Now I know it is not an easy job for my parents to cook for me after so many years. The meals made by myself taste particularly delicious! Watching my parents eating what I cook has made me really proud,” said Zhou Hongjin, one of the students in the class.
A student’s mother was quite moved after having the pancake made by her son in the morning.
Teacher Tian Bingbing said she hoped students could learn to love life and support themselves through cooking.
