In April, we reported the incident of a stray dog deliberately crushed by an electric car at a Hubei university.

In yet another tragic case of cruelty towards dog in our very own Shanghai, a video of a man beating a black dog with a stick in a fountain was widely shared on social media on May 30.

The incident happened in the afternoon on that day in Minhang Sports Park，according to thepaper.cn. The man in the footage is allegedly a security guard there.

Reports said the dog splashed and barked in the fountain while the guard badly caned it to death. Several onlookers were there but nobody tried pursuing the guard to stop.

When the video went viral on WeChat, dog lovers rushed to the scene around 3pm, only to find the dog's dead body floating in the fountain water.

The owner of the dog surnamed Zhu told the media that it was a stray dog she adopted a year ago. However, she lost the dog on the street a couple of days back. When she saw the video on WeChat, she ran to the park but of no avail.

At around 7:30pm that night, dozens of dog lovers gathered and built a small tomb mourning the dog's loss.

Some people burst into tears.

The case turned into a great controversy with some netizens criticizing the security guard for his cruelty while others saying he was just doing his job of preventing people from being bitten.

Web users also pointed out that the dog lovers overdid this time. They should pay more attention to tramps around and not animals.
