Japan radiation levels in sea 30km from plant safe

JAPANESE officials said today they were checking levels of radiation in seawater 30km (19 miles) from an earthquake-damaged nuclear power plant but were convinced that data would show there was no cause for concern about contaminated fish.

A Science Ministry official told a news briefing that iodine 131 levels in seawater at that distance from the coastal nuclear complex were within acceptable limits established by regulations.
