No casualties reported in Papua New Guinea quake
AN earthquake struck the east coast of Papua New Guinea today but there were no immediate reports of casualties, officials said.
The US Geological Survey said the 6.3 magnitude quake occurred at about 9:15 a.m. (2315 GMT) in the Pacific island nation and that the epicentre was 18 miles (29 km) east of the city of Lae.
Officials at the National Disaster Centre in Lae said the quake had been felt in the city but there were no reports of buildings collapsing.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii did not issue a tsunami alert.
