Russia resumes gas supply to Europe
RUSSIA'S state television says that Gazprom has resumed pumping gas to Europe via Ukraine after a six-day cutoff.
Vesti 24 television has shown a Gazprom official ordering the start of gas pumping into Ukraine, where EU-led monitors will track its flow. The state gas monopoly turned on the taps after 10 a.m. Moscow time (0700 GMT) today.
Russian and European Union officials said it would take at least a day for gas to reach consumers in Europe.
Russia has accused Ukraine of stealing gas intended for Europe and wanted the monitors in place before restarting supplies.
Ukraine denied the siphoning charge, but said it will have to use some Russian gas to power compressors that push Europe-bound gas through the pipelines. But Russia said it's Ukraine's duty to provide the gas.
