Singapore bans imports of food from Japan areas near reactor
SINGAPORE has suspended the import of milk, meat and produce from areas near Japan's crippled nuclear power plant due to radiation contamination, a government agency said today.
The Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) said on its website the ban comes after Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare said it had detected high radioactivity levels in raw milk and vegetables from the four prefectures of Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi and Gunma.
"AVA will continue to closely monitor and test imports of food from Japan," the regulator said. The products banned include milk, milk products, fruits and vegetables, seafood and meat.
