Broadcaster’s controversial conservation theory
A RECENT broadcast about people’s attitudes to animals raised important issues and arguments. The broadcaster believes there are two groups of people — conservationists and sentimentalists — and disagrees with both of them.
Firstly, conservationists believe the extinction of animals is dangerous so animals should be protected. On the other hand, the broadcaster believes extinction is an inevitable process. It occurs naturally, not because of society.
The broadcaster believes that keeping animals in zoos is beneficial, as they can be kept alive and healthy. Moreover, he points out that very few people are able to visit animals in their natural habitat, so those who can’t can watch them on films. Secondly, conservationists stress the importance of a balanced nature, whereas the broadcaster believes protecting the balance of nature threatens the public. He adds that the laws that protect animals are affecting people’s lives and they have no chance to protect themselves sufficiently. He believes human needs should come first over animal sentimentality.
Besides conservationists, sentimentalists are people who have a romantic attitude toward animals. The broadcaster believes they protest on matters that they don’t even understand. They intrude on other countries’ traditions and customs, such as bull-fighting. Not only that, they also come to a conclusion too quickly without understanding the reasoning behind the actions taken.
I don’t agree with the broadcaster’s views. I believe animals don’t become extinct naturally. Their lives are in danger because of human activities.
Zoos are also different from natural habitats. In natural habitats, animals wander freely unlike the caged prison of a trapped zoo.
Additionally, the balance of nature is not just about animals. A well-balanced natural environment is key to a healthy ecosystem. The government, as a strong influencer, should help endangered animals.
People’s attitude toward animals is creating chaos. It is not difficult to keep a balance if we all put in a little effort. In the end, the planet is not just ours. We should share it with animals to ensure a balanced ecosystem.
