Tech’s benefits outweigh its downside

What comes to mind when you hear the word “technology?” For many, technology is synonymous with innovation, machinery or engineering. Modern technology has advanced to a level that our ancestors could only dream of, but for millennia, technology has quite simply been the art of innovation.
While labeling it as such might seem fitting at first, this definition is rather restrictive. Technology does pertain to innovation in that it concerns improvement in the service of future needs, but more so technology serves to maintain the historical record. Entire cultures have only been able to develop with the use of new ideas and technology, and without either, there would be nothing in history ever worth recording. History and human experiences have been passed down so that people in the present can discern relevance from past events, and use them as personal guides for their futures. The “modern life” most currently experience can only be attributed to the advancements and countless ideas of the past, which have not only served to further our significance in the universe, but also shine a hopeful light toward the future.
Becoming global-minded
In this modern day and age, the average Joe’s or Josephine’s views on technology can differ immensely. Some argue that technology in its current form is unnecessary and drives people to become antisocial — a basic human trait. Others claim the opposite, and that technology helps bring people closer together. In reality, the impact technology has goes beyond what we can hope to measure or understand. Technology is the ability to synthesize old ideas or draw new ones out of thin air to create a result greater than the sum of its parts, a trait that separates mankind from all other species. WISS believes that technology is integral in the interconnected nature of modern learning, and plays a crucial role in the education of global-minded students.
Technology enables us to connect and learn new things from the comfort of a classroom, and provides an unmatched approach to academics. As a matter of fact, it is this attribute that makes us more human, and elevates our mindsets in the pursuit of becoming well-rounded individuals. Technology and progress are the factors that help keep the world on track, and a close approximation to possibly understanding the level of innovation of which humans are capable. After all, what are we if not for our ideas?
